Stedair Technical Bulletin

STEDAIR® Moisture Barriers are manufactured at Stedfast in our Class 100,000 IBM certified clean room. Stedfast controls each and every step, from the design to final inspection.

STEDAIR® 2000 is a highly engineered moisture barrier, designed to provide protection and performance needed by today's firefighters. These design benefits help the firefighter stay cooler and more comfortable.

STEDAIR® 2000 from Stedfast Moisture Management Systems: The protective moisture barrier of choice.

Features

STEDAIR® 2000 meets and exceeds the requirements of the standards NFPA 1971-2000 Edition, CGSB 155.1 and BNQ

STEDAIR® 3000 offers protection against:

  • Battery acids
  • Hydraulic fluid
  • Gasoline - fuel C
  • Aqueous film forming foam (AFFF)
  • Blood-borne pathogens ASTM F1670 and ASTM F1671
  • Water penetration
  • Heat and flame

THL (total heat loss)

The total heat loss requirement in the new standard has a minimum requirement of 130 watts per square meter.

STEDAIR® 2000 performance exceeds 200 watts per square meter when tested with a 7.5 ounce per square yard PBI Rip Top outer shell and a traditional 7.1 ounce per square yard Aralite thermal liner.

STEDAIR® 2000 provides exceptional breathability which minimizes the risk of heat stress.

TPP (Thermal Protective Performance)

The TPP requirement in the NFPA standard is a 35 Cal/cm2. STEDAIR® 2000 exceeds 65 Cal/cm2 when tested with a 7.5 ounce Omni 45 outer shell and a traditional Q9 thermal barrier.

The higher the TPP result, the less chance of injury to the firefighter.

Construction

The STEDAIR® 2000 Moisture barrier is engineered at Stedfast using Dupont's E-89. STEDAIR® 2000, using a bi-component technology, is made of a monolithic, specially formulated polymeric membrane with hydrophilic properties. The result is a high performance, lightweight, durable moisture barrier.

Technical Support

An advanced taping support system for the garment's seams from Stedfast Research ensures the stability of the gear on which the firefighter depends. Stedfast Research also provides continuing product support.
